Change, it can sweep over you with the power of a tsunami or sneak up in minuscule increments. It can bring exhilaration and joy. But sometimes change can be overwhelming, even immobilizing. I have discovered a way to keep my head above water during these times. Do you want to know how to stop being overwhelmed by change?
Cling to a solid truth.
Even when things seem out of control.
Even when the events of your life are engulfing you and there seems to be no way out.

For me it is this verse:
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever” Hebrews 13:8
Whether all I know is being removed or altered or even one small piece of my life is changing, this verse’s truth buoys me up. It stops me from being overwhelmed by change.
Jesus remains the same. He is the solid rock I can hold onto, the one which does not move.
He provides the stability I crave when everything feels like it is shifting under my feet.
This stability helps me when I find it hard to act. When I don’t know where to start in adjusting to my new world.
When the winds of change are blowing out of control, remembering Jesus never changes helps me get my bearings in the chaos.
Why is that so important?
It means I can trust Jesus.
His character, who he is and how he acts does not change with my situation. Regardless if the change was my fault or not.
No person is like this. People change. With time, stress or because of their circumstances.
But not Jesus.
Remember how He has helped in the past.
If you are not used to doing this, bear with me. Look back over periods of change. Recall what happened.
Can you see any areas where Jesus moved? Where something you prayed for suddenly happened? Or, maybe something a completely unexpected solution appeared.
I remember when He provided a job at just the right time. When we were shown the house that fit us perfectly. And so much more.
These were times of celebration.
I also remember the times when the hard situation did not work out the way I wanted. When the illness was not cured, or when the application was not accepted. These were the times when he made His Presence known to me. He never left.
He gave me peace. I was able to keep walking through the situation.
During these times I reflected on the truth in “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever” again and again.
He provided what I needed in jubilant changes and during challenging transitions.
Because He does not change, I can trust He will provide what I need now.
Just like He did before.
I can stop being overwhelmed by change because Jesus does not change. So can you.
