Journeying into God's Love

Chased into Truth

September 18, 2019

The muscles on the back of my neck were throbbing. My foot was pushing down on the accelerator with increasing pressure. My stress levels skyrocketed.  I glanced furtively at the speedometer.

My gaze returned to the rearview mirror. Nothing. Just an empty road.

I slowed the car. The vehicle that had been tailgating, pushing me to go faster, had vanished.

I had been chased by something that was no longer there. Not so very different from parts of my life. Maybe you can relate.

Maybe you feel chased by a mistake that you made, a serious one. Perhaps you are being hounded by an old sin. You have asked for and received forgiveness. But you just can’t let go of the guilt.

Or maybe like me, you are being chased by a memory that has become a part of how you see yourself. “You never persist and finish anything.” Even though my list of completed projects grows I am fearful that I will be revealed to be a fraud. I have changed but I have allowed myself to be chased by a ghost.

But today I have been chased into truth. I am remembering this:

“So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Annointed One.” Romans 8:1(TPT)

When I forget, as I likely will, I will remember the empty rearview mirror. The accusing voice of condemnation cannot chase me. It is gone.

I will not spend energy running from it. I am no longer defined by my past.

I am joyfully looking ahead to the open road. I am moving into new adventures.
