An Unexpected Gift that Gave Twice

December 6, 2019

Have you ever received an unexpected gift, one you thought would be impossible to get, at just the right time? I did this Thanksgiving. Read on to see how this unexpected gift gave twice.

Panic!

As I was unpacking our cooler, I realized with horror I had not included cream for our coffee. A small matter you may think. But based on the collective gasp ricocheting around the room, not in our family.

My husband Dan and I raced to the store, only to find the door locked. It was after all Thanksgiving. Downcast, we started our return trip. Almost back at our vacation rental, we noticed a glowing open sign.

At a pizza restaurant.

No use trying there I assured Dan, they will not have creamer. But Dan optimistically bounded up the stairs. I waited outside shaking my head.

The Gift…..

Moments later he emerged victorious, brandishing a large bottle of coffee creamer; hazelnut his favorite. He explained the owner had bought it for himself but did not like it. He graciously gifted it refusing to take any money. AMAZING!

Our family was relieved and thankful! (Thank you #Janino’s Pizza!)

How the Gift Gave Twice…..

My low expectations could have completely limited our situation.

I understand this was not a critical situation. But this is how the unexpected gift gave twice.

I began to wonder how often I do this with God.

Not pray for something because it seems to be impossible.

Or, stop praying because I perceive the delay in the answer to mean it is an impossible request.

Do you ever do that?

In a very difficult situation God said to Jeremiah:

“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:27 (NIV)

He is the same Lord today.

In situations that appear to be small. And in those that are enormous.

I have accepted the second gift with open arms.

I am going to and move forward trying to remember to not let my prayers be limited by what I feel is impossible.

I pray God will nudge me when I forget.

Is there an impossible situation you can pray about today?
